Norman Lloyd "Norm" Sims

Norman Lloyd Sims, 70, of Independence, Missouri passed away peacefully on September 6, 2018 due to complications associated with Parkinson’s disease. Services will be 9:30 am, Thursday, Sept, 13 at Bethel Baptist Church, 2406 S. State Rte. 291, Independence, MO 64050. Committal services will be 1 pm at Garden City Cemetery in Garden City, MO. Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Wed. at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Bethel Baptist Church, 2406 S. State Route 291, Independence, Mo. or to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, Grand Central Station PO Box 4777, New York, NY 10163-4777.
Norm was born in Kansas City, Mo. on May 18, 1948 to Lloyd and Donita (McCulloh) Sims. He was a 1966 graduate of William Chrisman High School in Independence, Mo. and served in the US Army from 1968 to 1970. Norm was united in marriage to Sharon Anderson on July 18, 1970 and they were blessed with two daughters, Dayna Marie and Denise Suzanne. For over 30 years, Norm worked for the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier in Liberty, Mo. before retiring in 2003. Norm loved to hunt, fish, garden and raise cattle. For many years he exhibited vegetables at the Missouri State Fair growing some of the finest tomatoes in the state and was known for his basketball size cabbages. Norm served as a deacon at the Bethel Baptist Church in Independence, where he faithfully shared his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Norm was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife Sharon along with his daughters Dayna (Jeff) Golden and Denise (Scott) Paxton. He was blessed with four grandchildren Jeffrey Golden, Trevor Golden, Jordan Paxton, and Brady Paxton. Norm also leaves behind a brother Lowell (Pam) Sims along with several nieces and nephews and a host of extended family and friends.
