Dennis Andrew “Andy” Skeen, 40, passed away on March 23, 2017 at his home in Blue Springs. Cremation is planned with a memorial visitation on Sunday, July 2, at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St. in Independence, from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m.
Andy was born on September 4, 1976, in Atchison, KS, to Donald Gerald Skeen and Dorothy Jean “Dottie” (VanWey) Mercer. From a young age, he had a drive to become a business owner and handyman- he was so skilled with numbers and with people. He was the owner and operator of his own food service company until two years ago, when he decided he needed to concentrate on healing from his chronic illness caused from a motorcycle accident.
Andy will always be remembered for his love of his family. He met Michelle Irene Hyde, whom he affectionately nicknamed “Fruitloop” in November 2008, and they married on June 5, 2011. He looked up to his step-father, William “Bill” Mercer, and would do anything for his children.
He loved being in the water. He enjoyed scuba-diving, swimming, catch-and-release fishing, and just relaxing on the beach. He was also a thrill-seeker. He would ride four-wheelers and speedboats at top speed. July 4th was his favorite holiday, where he would light off as many fireworks as possible!
Survivors include his loving wife, Michelle; children, Khristian, Jake, and Lauren; mother and step-father, Dottie and Bill Mercer; step-brother, Mike Mercer; half-brothers, Donnie and Gary Skeen; half-sisters, Rebecca Curtis and Chatty Page; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Skeen, cousin, Cinnamon O’Donnell, and various other family members.
