Judy (Calihan) Skoch, 80, of Independence, Missouri passed away January 10, 2021 surrounded by her family. She was one of a kind and always the life of the party.
Judy was born December 3, 1940 to James and Phoebe Calihan in Topeka, Kansas. She graduated from Topeka High School and went on to pursue a career in nursing from Washburn University - Stormont Vail School of Nursing. She practiced nursing at many places during her life but spent 30 years with the Medical Center of Independence in various areas.
She married Leroy Skoch in 1961 and moved to Colorado Springs to start his military service, returning to Independence in 1963 with their newborn daughter. She had a son four years later and he was the “golden child”. Another daughter was born five years later. She raised them to be independent, fun loving adults. Grandma loved her grandchildren so much, always eager to share their stories. They all will truly miss her, almost as much as the Casino!!!
Besides her love of the 5 Card draw machines at the Casino, she enjoyed camping vacations and travels with their lifelong group of friends. She loved music and playing the piano. Sewing and painting were her passions. She passed many of her talents to her children. One of her greatest joys was Facebook – her comments would be one-word responses. We can truly say she would post that Heaven is “perfect”, “terrific” or “wonderful”!
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Carol and Janice. She is survived by: her husband, daughter, Shelly Schoeneck (Scott), son, Tim Skoch (Monique) and daughter, Tracy Sinclair (John Downey). She has 6 grandchildren: Tommy and Brooks Schoeneck, J.T. and Dani Skoch, Danyelle and Sydney Sinclair. She had 4 great grandchildren: Wyatt, Frankie, Danyel and Cooper.
Just as Judy gave life to every party, she continues to give life through her selfless decision of organ donation.
Judy's wishes were to be cremated and the family will plan a celebration of life at a later date, so we can share stories and pictures of her fun times. Family and friends are encouraged to contact the family, they would all love to hear from you.
