Harriett met her husband, Donald, when her younger sister introduced him to her. They dated for several months and married December 8, 1942. They were married 64 years. During World War II, Don was on a Navy ship and Harriett followed him up and down the east coast to be in whatever port the ship was docked.
Harriett worked as a bookkeeper for Don’s masonry business, D.G. Skouse Co. until they retired in 1988. Harriett and Don participated in the Lake Jacomo Sailing Club for many years where Harriett ran the committee boat. She had several hobbies that were more like passions over the years…she began taking ceramic classes and even had her own kiln so she could create many beautiful and unique pottery pieces. She also enjoyed sewing and knitting. At one point she owned 3 sewing machines and 3 knitting machines. She enjoyed meeting the ladies in her knitting group at the Knitcraft’s Yarn Shop in Independence, MO. She actually had enough yarn in her basement to open her own Knit Shop!!
A special thank you goes out to the staff at Addington Place for the tender and loving care they gave our mother.
Services will be held at Speaks Suburban Chapel on June 28th at 10:00 AM with burial at Mt. Washington Cemetery afterwards. The family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association.
