Donald L. Sladek 81 of Independence, MO passed away at the residence on February 21, 2021, leaving for his eternal home. He was born on February 6, 1940 in Atkinson, NE to Vladek and Mabel Sladek. He was an Air Force Veteran, serving his country 3½ years, stationed in England. He returned to Nebraska and married the love of his life, Linda Bentz, on October 18, 1964. Don began his hardware career in 1965, working for his Father-in-Law at Coast to Coast Hardware in Schuyler, NE as a store manager. Don’s Father-in-Law purchased a Coast to Coast Store in Susquehanna and in 1969, Don and Linda relocated to Independence, MO with their two children. In 1982, Don and Linda bought the business and 1987, built their new store, now known as Sladek Do It Best Hardware. Don continued to work until the age of 80+. Hardware was his life-long passion. He also enjoyed fishing and time spent with friends and family. He is survived by his wife and sweetheart Linda, of 56 years. daughter Patty Snider and husband Kelly; son Donnie Sladek and wife Karla, all of Independence. Three grandchildren: Jason Deihl, Nicole Snider and Ryan Snider and two precious great-grandchildren: Daisy and Jack Deihl; sister, Betty Waak and husband Don, of Schuyler, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Phyllis Sladek, of Columbus, Nebraska; beloved grand dog, Gracie Girl; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and wonderful friends considered as family . Private graveside services will be held at Garber Memorial Estates Cemetery in Laurie, MO. A celebration of Life is planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Donald’s name to Wayside Waifs or Great Plains SPCA.
