Michael Earnest "Mike" Slaven Sr.

Michael “Mike” Slaven, 65, of Independence, MO passed December 30, 2019. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO. Michael was born August 31, 1954 in Kansas City, KS to Lloyd and Inez (Sharp) Slaven. Mike was married to his loving wife, Mary, on September 5, 1972. He was a member of Millwright’s Local Union #1529, and attended Immanuel Baptist Church. Mike enjoyed bowling, playing pool, fishing, being with his family, and visiting with his neighbors, Larry and Shirley, who were like family; and Darrell, Darlene and their boys, who were a blessing to Mike and Mary. He was preceded in death by his parents; and by one brother, Tim Slaven. Mike is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary (Folsom) Slaven; his two children, Michael Jr. (Daisy) and Michelle Ayers (David); brother, Steve Slaven (Annette); ten grandchildren, Christopher, Cecilee, Heather, Brianna, Seiraya, Julia, Noah, Rossy, Allysiah and Jonah; and five great grandchildren, Jilliyet, Brooklynn, Mason, Luke and Desalee, who affectionately called him Poppy.
