Jerry, age 63, Independence, MO, passed away January 26, 2005, at St. Luke�s Hospital after a long and courageous battle with Cancer. Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 30 , at Christ United Methodist Church, 14506 E. 39th St., Independence, MO, 64055. Jerry was born February 18, 1941, in Pattonsburg, MO, to Forest and Pearl Slaybaugh. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, June; and two brothers, Dudley and Bill. Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Jan Slaybaugh; his daughter Lori and Bob Gregor, Lenexa; son, Greg Slaybaugh, Lake Lotawana; two sisters, Jessie Rose and Garel Rainey, and Sue Forrest and Hiram Burr; brother, Carl and Betty Slaybaugh; grandchildren, Anna, Chip, and Charlie Slaybaugh, and Libby and Sara Gregor; and many nieces and nephews. He graduated for High School in King City, MO, in 1959 and was a member of the Air National Guard and a member of the King City Baptist Church. He truly loved his 40 years of work as a barber in Kansas City, MO, where he forged many lifelong relationships. Jerry loved and lived for his family and friends, including his customers at his barbershop. He was a very devoted brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. We will remember him forever and miss him dearly. Jerry will be present for viewing at Speaks Funeral Home, 18020 E. 39th St. on Saturday, January 29, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Immediate family will be available from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Jerry would have appreciated memorial contributions to Cancer Research, Christ United Methodist Church, or your favorite charity.
