Annelise Smith, of Independence, MO, a creative soul who was a lady of many talents and devoted mother and wife, passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2022. She was 83 years old. As a child of WWII, Annelise was born on December 3, 1938, in Altzedlisch, Sudetenland, to Martin and Elisabeth (Roschenthaler) Roller. At the tender age of 6 years old, Annelise fled the Czechoslovakia border with her family and migrated to West Germany. In 1956, she met the love of her life, Eugene Richard “Gene” Smith while he was serving in the United States Army. On February 24, 1959, Annelise married Gene at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Independence, MO, and to this union 4 children were born: Diana, Jeany, Michael, and Martin. She loved being a homemaker and making a home for her family and enjoyed gardening her flowers. From 1959 to 1993, Annelise and Gene lived in Independence, before moving to Avon Park, FL and residing there for 27 years.
Annelise took great pride in being crafty. From ceramics to wood carving, to knitting and painting, she was very creative with her hands. Annelise was such a detail-oriented woman, who was very driven, focused and will always be remembered for being very firm in her beliefs, and she will be deeply missed. She is survived by her children, Diana Hinchey, Jeany Buck (Larry), and Martin Smith (Sherri); grandchildren, Brandon Hinchey, Brooke Moore, Leah Donaghue, Jason Buck, Jeffrey Buck, Logan Smith, and Carli Smith; great-grandchildren, Makenzie Hinchey, Rylee Hinchey, Ashlynn Moore and Olivia Moore; and siblings, Hilde Storey, Helmut Bohning, and Werner Bohning. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Gene Smith; son, Michael Smith; sister, Louise Sterling; and parents, Martin, and Elisabeth Roller.
