Smith "Buzz" Nottingham Brickhouse III

Smith N. Brickhouse III, 82, passed away on April 3, 2024. He was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1941 to Smith Brickhouse Jr. and Allene Appleby Brickhouse. Smith graduated from BayView High School in Milwaukee, WI in 1959. He then went to the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee where he met his future wife Susan Hunholz Brickhouse. Smith was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity and graduated with a BS degree in economics from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee in 1964.

He started his career with the John Oster manufacturing company in Milwaukee, WI in 1964, later being transferred with his wife to McMinnville, Tennessee for several years returning to Milwaukee and ending his Oster career there in 1974 as a corporate production control manager.

Having the desire to move closer to their church’s world headquarters, Smith and his family moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 1974 where he was employed by the Puritan Bennett corporation for the next 16 ½ years retiring there as the vice president and general manager of the Lenexa division of the Puritan Bennett Corporation.

At the 1991 General Conference of the Church of Christ headquartered on the Temple Lot in Independence, Missouri, Smith was called and ordained as an apostle in the Church of Christ. Having recently retired, he spent the next 26 years traveling throughout the Eastern U.S. and Canada, Africa, India, and Latin America. In this labor, he was one of the organizers of their annual Youth camp and was instrumental in organizing many congregations and Missions throughout the world for the Church.

Smith is survived by his wife of 60 years; Susan Brickhouse, his sons; Smith N. Brickhouse IV (Scott), Gregory Brickhouse (Tammy), Jason Brickhouse (Kelli), his daughter; Darl Williams (Jeff), as well as 10 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.

Smith and Susan enjoyed their large extended family taking annual vacations in WI, NC, TN, and MO along with many wonderful tours and cruises with family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at the Church of Christ (Temple Lot) (200 S River Blvd, Independence, MO 64050) on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at 4 pm. A memorial visitation will take place prior to the service beginning at 3 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Church of Christ Missionary Fund and mailed to:
