Don R. Smith, 86 of Blue Springs, MO, formerly of Golconda, IL, passed away Thursday, May 4, 2017 with his family at his side. Cremation is planned with a memorial gathering to be held from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, May 18, 2017 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. Don was born December 13, 1930 in Metropolis, IL to Roy Taylor and Clara Pearl (Davis) Smith. He worked for 36 years for Texaco Oil, until he retired in 1986, as a manager in their real estate department. After retirement, he and his wife lived part-time at the Lake of the Ozarks. He enjoyed water sports, golf, European travel and cruises. He proudly served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity at the University of Illinois. He married his wife, Delight (Chambers) Smith, over 65 years ago, while a student at the University of Illinois, she survives him at their residence. Other survivors include; his children, Kevin Smith of Nashville, TN and Kimberly Johnson of Oak Grove, MO; 4 grandchildren, Amanda Willis and Ashley Willis both of Lee’s Summit, MO, Joseph Willis of Kansas City, MO and Hunter Smith of Istanbul, Turkey; 2 great grandchildren, Peita Gilchrist-Willis and Canaan Willis and a niece Jane Nichols of Bartlett, TN.
