E. Elwood Smith

E. Elwood Smith, 84, of Independence, passed away Thursday August 14, 2003, at Rosewood Care Center. Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Saturday, August 16, 2003 at White Oak Chapel at The Groves. The family suggests contributions in lieu of flowers to the Community of Christ Temple Fund, 1001 W. Walnut, Independence, MO. 64050-3562. Elwood was born August 12, 1919 to John W. and Hazel G. Smith in Detroit, Michigan. Elwood worked at the National Bank in Detroit and the Motorola Radio. He married Lilly V. Cambridge on July 20th, 1940 in the Central Church in Detroit. They celebrated their 63rd Anniversary at the Groves. In 1946 Elwood and Lilly accepted full church appointment. He covered many geographical areas as District President, Regional Administrator, and Bishop during his 36 years of service to the Community of Christ Church. Elwood is preceded in death by his son Don Smith in 1975. He is survived by his wife Lilly Smith, one daughter Sharon and her husband William Outhouse; six grandchildren, Don Jr, Jody and Jennifer Smith; Allan Eddie and Shelly Outhouse; daughter in law Carol Smith, five great grandchildren; Kelsey, Allysa, Clarissa, Savanah, and Morgan. One aunt, one uncle, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends also survive Elwood.
