Gary Wayne Smith, 71, of Warrensburg, MO, passed away on Friday August 20, 2021. A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, August 28th from 1-2pm, with a service following at 2pm, both at Speaks Buckner Chapel, 300 Adams, Buckner, MO 64016.

Gary was born on July 28th, 1950 in Independence, MO to Alden and Wathena (Ireland) Smith.

He graduated from high school and married Patricia “Patty” Cable, his best friend’s sister, whom he had known since the 7th grade. Gary’s life consisted of numerous ways that he gave to his community and family. He was a volunteer fire-fighter for Fort Osage Fire for almost 10 years. He drove bus for 2 years for his church, Grover Park Baptist Church in Warrensburg. He and Patty rode with Faith Riders, a local motorcycle ministry. And he spent time making memories with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Gary retired in 2000 from General Motors after 32 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, boating, classic car shows, Nutella straight from the jar, and time with his dogs, especially Marley, Rocky and Adrian. Gary was adored by his family and respected by his friends. He will be missed by all.

Gary is survived by his beloved wife, Patty; his daughter, Kim (Wesley) Wood; his son, Chris Smith; grandchildren, Dempsey, Brenden, Samantha, Nathan, Tieler (Nikki), Payton, Hayden, Katy, and Cole; great-grandchildren, Karson and Kolbie; sisters, Bonnie (Walt) Evilsizer, and Lisa (Audie) Murphy; step-siblings, Linda (Robert) Pottberg, Patsy (Pat) McCullough; Randy (Cindy) Turner, Ervin (Lisa) Turner, and Michael Turner, as well as many more aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; his sisters Sherry Miller and her husband, Dwight “Chip”, and Laura Wilcox; and step-nephew, Brian Pottberg.
