Lawrence F. “Larry” Smith, 92, of Independence, MO passed away Tuesday, December 4, 2018. Larry was born July 19, 1926, in Independence, MO to Henry C. and Mabel L. Smith. After graduating from William Chrisman High School in 1944 he was called to the Army for two years. He then spent two years at Kansas City Jr. College, after which he attended five years at the University of Kansas. He graduated with a degree in Architecture. In 1950, he married Louise O. Steckel. Larry then worked with the architectural firm that finished the work on the RLDS Auditorium, that his father designed many years before. Larry started an architectural office with Roy Bradford, called Bradford & Smith Architects, that produced many local structures around the area. Larry was also president of Independence People to People in the late 1960s. He and Louise visited Blantyre, Malawi to present money for an ambulance from the city of Independence. He retired in 2004. He is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers. Survivors include his wife, Louise O. Smith, his daughters Lenza Smith and Lora Cox and grandchildren Jason Osiek (Andi), Oshiana Lindsley, Sara Davidson (Brent) and great-grandchildren Milla, Collin, Elaine, Hailey and Alexa. There will not be a visitation or memorial service at this time.
