Paul W. Smith, 64, of Lee’s Summit, MO passed away suddenly on September 14, 2016. Visitation will be from 3-4pm followed by a Memorial service beginning at 4pm, both on Saturday, Oct. 1, at Spring Valley Baptist Church, 8801 E. 79th St., Raytown, MO, 64138. Contributions may be made to Donate Life or Midwest Transplant Network in his memory.
Paul was born on August 20, 1952, in Hazard, KY, to Hubert and Lorene (Brewer) Smith. He graduated from Lemon Monroe High School in the class of 1970, and then obtained his Bachelor’s degree in History from the University of Cincinnati in 1974. Paul married Monica Gilley in 1976, and to this union were born three children. He has been a resident of the Kansas City area since 1985. He worked for Pepsi-Co in merchandising for over 25 years. In his spare time, Paul enjoyed cycling, reading, fishing, and walking the dog. His family affectionately remembers him as an easygoing man, and a hippie at heart. His whole world revolved around Monica, who was the light of his life for 37 years.
Paul is survived by his children: Loree Lisk (Jason), Amber Countryman (Steven) and Joseph “J.D.” Smith (Amanda); and his grandchildren who will dearly miss their “PaPa”: Owen, Ainslee, Harper, Jameson, Maxwell, Meredith, Abbigail, Autumn, Broderick, Blake, and one on the way; and siblings: Patti Hatton (Jim), Michael Smith (Carol), and Melinda Fugate (Rick).
He has rejoined Monica in Heaven where they are definitely “changing socks” again. He is also preceded by his parents, Hubert and Lorene.
