William Clarence Smith, 86, of Independence, MO passed away, Wed. Nov. 12, 2003 at the Independence Regional Health Center. Services will be 2:00 pm, Monday Nov. 17 at the Speaks Midtown Chapel. Burial in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 7 - 8:30 pm Sunday at the Midtown Chapel. Contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society. Mr. Smith was born on Sep. 2, 1917 to William and Lula Smith in Garden City, MO and has lived in the Kansas City - Independence area since 1945. He had been a Steelworker with Armco Steel, retiring in 1982. He was a WWII veteran of the US Army, receiving six Bronze Stars for the Algeria-France-Morocco, Tunisia, Sicilian, Normandy, Northern France and Germany Campaigns. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his wife, Florence Elizabeth Smith in 1981. He is survived by two sons, Ronald Smith and Gary Smith. Two daughters Bonny Smith and Gayle McGinley and Husband, Jim, all of Independence. A sister, Helen Cordell of Kansas City, MO. Five grandchildren, Kristopher McGinley, Heather McGinley, William Jonathan Smith, William Joseph Smith and Justin Day Smith.
