William Gordon Smith

December 4, 1912 — August 26, 2005

William Gordon Smith, 92, of Odessa, MO formerly of Independence, MO passed away Friday, August 26, 2005 at New Haven Care Center. Services will be 10 am Thursday, September 1st at Speaks Suburban Chapel; with interment in Mt. Washington Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 to 8 pm at the Chapel. Gordon was born December 4, 1912 in Independence, MO to Harry and Flora Smith. Gordon was baptized in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at age 8 by his grandfather. He served faithfully as Deacon, Priest, Elder, helped in Special Ministries, and provided ministry at Resthaven for many years. During WW II Gordon was an inspector at the B-25 Bomber plant in Kansas City, KS. He was a cabinetmaker for JC Nichols Co. for several years, and a self employed contractor and carpenter. Gordon was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Bessie Smith and is survived by his wife of 6 years, Vera E. Smith; children, Jimmy Smith of Frankford, IN, Denise Smith of Odessa, MO, Darrel Smith of Odessa, MO, and Wesley Smith of Independence, MO; 17 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren.
