Harvey Leroy Snyder, 67, of Independence, MO, passed away, Friday, May 27, 2005 at Regency Care Center. Graveside services with full military honors will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 1, 2005 at the Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday evening at the chapel. Harvey was born November 18, 1937 in Kansas City, MO to Floyd L. and Sybil (Burris) Snyder, Sr. He has been a lifelong area resident graduating from William Chrisman High School and the University of Missouri at Columbia. He was a veteran of the Army having served from 1959-1962. He worked as a loan officer for Capital Federal Savings for over 20 years before becoming a real estate broker and later worked for the Jackson County Assessors Department, retiring from there in 1993. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #76 AF&AM, Kansas City Scottish Rite Bodies, Ararat Shrine, UM-C Alumni, Phi Delta Theta fraternity, American Legion Post #21 and was a past Lieutenant Governor of the M-district of Optimist International. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eugenia (Linenbringer) and a brother Floyd L. Snyder, Jr. He was previously married to Shirley (Sowers) in 1958 and is survived by 2 daughters, Denise Shockley and her husband Scott of Brookfield, CT and Major Shauna Snyder of Alexandria, VA. Other survivors include; a sister, Patsy Jacobs and her husband Steve of West Plains, MO; a sister-in-law, Adla Snyder of Independence, MO; two grandchildren, Taylor and Eric Shockley and 3 step children. Harvey was treated with loving kindness by his family, friends and the staff at Regency Care Center. Donations may be made to the City Union Mission.
