Marguerite Joyce Solomon, 78, passed away on March 12, 2016. A memorial service will be held at South Crysler Restoration Branch, 16101 E Salisbury Rd, Independence, MO 64050, on Thursday, March 17, at 3:00 p.m with visitation beginning at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the church or to the MO Department of Conservation, Donations Coordinator, P.O. Marguerite was born on December 1, 1937, in Fortuna, CA, to Robert Leroy and Marguerite Edith (Butske) Baker. She married Joseph Henry Luff, and to this union were born three children. After Joseph passed away, she put herself through school to obtain a teaching degree, and graduated with top honors. She was a well-loved fifth grade teacher for Ott and Randall Elementary Schools. She later met and married Albert L. “Bud” Solomon, with whom she spent 44 years together. She was also licensed by the US Fish and Wildlife Service and the MO Department of Conservation as a Master Birdbander. She was affectionately known as the “Bird Lady of Independence” who would often put on presentations for schools around the state. “Southern Living” magazine featured her birdbanding skills in one of their issues. Marguerite was very involved in her church, and even began the “Zion’s Cannery,” which helped people dry-pack can emergency supplies.
Marguerite is survived by her children, David Luff (Teresa), Cindy DeSelms (Kendall), Eric Luff, and her step-children, Richard Solomon (Donna), Paul Solomon, Steve Solomon, Tom Solomon, and Kathi Solomon-Duda; 22 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Solomon; her parents; and three brothers.
