Richard D. "Rich" Sorensen

Richard D. Sorensen, has joined his Savior in eternal glory, August 24, 2021. He was born December 31, 1935 to Carl and Erna Sorensen, Hamlin, IA. He was baptized as an infant and confirmed April 22, 1951 at Hamlin Lutheran Church, Hamlin, IA. Richard was united in marriage on May 4, 1957 to Carol Doitch, daughter of Henry & Hilda Doitch, Carroll, IA. He is survived by his wife, Carol; two sisters – Mrs. Marilyn Munch, Exira, Iowa and Mrs. Marjorie Christensen, Hamlin, Iowa; several nieces, nephews, 9 godchildren, in addition to many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl & Erna Sorensen; brother, Bob Sorensen; sister, Donna Sheley; brother-in-law, Herb Christensen; Darrell Munch and sister-in-law, Betty Sorensen. Richard was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Germany. He retired from Jack Cooper Auto Transport, Kansas City, MO in 1997 and a Teamster member for 37 years. He was a resident of Kansas City, MO since 1976 and was an active member of Ascension Lutheran Church, LCMS, Kansas City, MO. A celebration of life service will be held September 1 at 1:00 P.M., with visitation one hour preceding the service at Ascension Lutheran Church, 4900 Blue Ridge Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64133. Interment will be at a later date in the Hamlin Lutheran Cemetery, Hamlin, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial gift to his church.
