Virgil South, 74, of Blue Springs, MO passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2018. A visitation will be held from 4-6pm on Sunday, January 7, 2018 at Speaks Suburban Chapel 18020 E. 39th St, Independence, MO, 64055. A service will be at 10am on Monday, January 8, 2018 at Tri-City Baptist Church 430 NE Duncan Rd, Blue Springs, MO, 64014.
Virgil was born on December 18, 1943 in Independence, MO to Virgil Alvin and Ruby (Pollard) South. After graduating from high school he began working for General Motors. He also proudly served in the United States Army and in Vietnam from 1967-1968. On March 20, 1971 he married the love of his life, Teresa O’Malley. Together they raised two daughters. Virgil loved to run, participating in several half-marathons and one full marathon. He liked bicycling, cheering on the Chiefs and Royals, and coaching little league for Tri-City as well. He was a faithful member to Tri-City and cherished every moment with his family.
Virgil will be remembered by his wife of 46 years, Terrie South of Blue Springs, MO; daughters Michelle Meindl and husband Matthew of Minot, ND, Christina Brown and husband Stephen of Blue Springs, MO; brothers James South and wife Sharon of Buckner, MO, Richard South and wife Anita of Independence, MO; grandchildren Jacob Brown, Ashley Nuñez (Kese), Cassandra Brown, Peter Meindl, Caleb Brown, Hannah Meindl, Samuel Meindl; and great-grandchildren Sadie Nuñez and Kyle Nuñez.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Linda Legan and Diana Christenson.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Tri-City Missions.
