Martha Sowers 1917-2017
Mrs. Martha Sowers passed away peacefully on Saturday evening March 25, 2017 in Huntersville, North Carolina. She was 99 years old.
Born and raised in Mayview, Missouri on December 22, 1917, Martha was a daughter of the late Elbert E. and Esther E. Jennings. She and her late husband, James Kelley Sowers were longtime members of the Maywood Baptist Church and spent the majority of their years in the city of Independence. Martha worked for 35 years as a receptionist for Drs. William and Robert Gosnell. Martha was preceded in death by her daughter, Shirley (Snyder) Willis and her dear sister Fleta Rand.
She is survived by her granddaughters, Denise Shockley and her husband, Scott, of North Carolina, Shauna Snyder and her wife Paula of Virginia, two great grandchildren, Taylor Baumgartner and her husband, Matt of Brewster, MA, Eric Shockley and his wife Christina of Manhattan, KS, and two great-great grandchildren, John Philip and Levi Baumgartner.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with her family from 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 18 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E 39th St, Independence, MO 64051. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Robert Spradling officiating. Interment will follow at Brand Cemetery, Higginsville, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers friends and family are welcome to make a gift in memorial to Maywood Baptist Church.
