Ricky Lee Spaulding

Ricky Lee “Rick” Spaulding, of Independence, MO passed away on Monday, July 5th, 2021. He was 72.

A visitation will be held Sunday, July 11th from 3-5pm with a funeral service Monday, July 12th at 10am, both at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E 39th St.: Independence, MO 64055.

Rick was born June 23, 1949 in Iowa to Arvine and Iris (Burkey) Spaulding. He was attending Sauk Valley Community College when he enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1969. He served a total of 18 years which included service in the Vietnam War and time as a decorated Master Sergeant. He enjoyed attending Good Shepherd Community of Christ where he also served as deacon. Rick was an avid bowler, loved watching Westerns, Sunday dinners, and going to the lake. But most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids.

He is preceded in death by his parents Arvine and Iris Spaulding, his wife, Janet Spaulding and his daughter, Dawn Spaulding.

He is survived by his daughter, Ashley Shamblin-Dean and her husband, Robert of Independence, MO and son, Eric (Cathy) Spaulding, of Orrick, MO; 10 grandchildren, Carey, Caylie, Savanah, Gracie, Caylen, Gloria, Christopher, Corey, Austin, and Donnie, as well as, two great grandchildren, Christopher and Cason; his brothers, Terry (Carol) Spaulding of Blue Springs, MO and Tom (Patty) Spaulding of Sibley, MO.
