Maudie Juanita Speed, 83, of Grain Valley, MO passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2020. A memorial visitation will be held from 1-3pm, Tuesday, March 10th at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E 39th St, Independence, MO 64055.
Maudie was born September 22, 1936 in a humble log cabin just outside of Versailles, MO to Hollis and Lenora (Sanders) Spoor, Sr. She married Frank Speed on August 6, 1955 in Kansas City, MO and together raised two children. Frank and Maudie lived within the Raytown and Grain Valley communities during their 64-year marriage.
Maudie was an avid reader, many times completing 5 to 6 novels in one week. She was also a talented painter, seamstress, quilter, pianist and violinist. She also enjoyed staying physically active, completing four 50-mile swimming patches with the YWCA and bowling three perfect-300 games during her lifetime. She also loved boating, fishing and camping in their RV throughout 22 different states. Maudie will be dearly missed by her friends and family who love her.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her daughter Marie Harden and her brother, Doug Spoor. She is survived by her beloved husband, Frank; her son, Gerald Speed of Livingston, TX; granddaughters, Michelle Speed of Maryville, MO and Kathleen Willoughby and her husband, Joshua of Gladstone, MO; 3 great-grandchildren; as well as, her brother, Hollis Spoor, Jr. of Oklahoma City, OK.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Maudie’s honor to One Community Hospice.
