Norman H. Spence, 76, Kansas City, MO, passed away June 12, 2016. Norman was born May 5, 1940, in Colorado Springs, CO. His parents were Glen and Mabel (Richter) Spence. Norman was an only child. Norman’s parents preceded him in death as did three sisters-in-law, Billie J. Motzkus, Elayna P. Motzkus, and Alice M. Kidd. A nephew, Mark S. Kidd, also preceded Norman in death. Norman attended a rural school for 3 years and then moved with his parents to Colorado Springs, CO where he completed most of his education. Norman was working in construction in 1963 when he met his future wife, Gail Motzkus who was working for the summer near Manitou Springs, CO. They were married September 15, 1963 and lived in Colorado until 1966 when they moved to Missouri. In the many years following his marriage, Norman began working in maintenance. He had two sons, Will and Eric Spence. He was a member of Grace Church of Independence and was previously a member of Bales Baptist Church where he helped teach Sunday school and became a deacon. Mr. Spence retired from the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority in 2005 where he had worked 19 years. Survivors include his wife, Gail; sons William and Eric, and two sister-in-law, Maida Peterson (Mark) Ankeny, Iowa and Jeannie Cochell (Bill) Phoenix, Arizona; and many nieces and nephews. Services will be Saturday June 18, 2016; at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be Friday June 17, 2016 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO.
