Morey D. Spencer, 90, of Independence, Missouri passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at the Kansas City Hospice House on Wornall Road. Born in Salem, Missouri to Sterling Asbury, "Barry," and Bonnie (Nettles) Spencer. He lived most of his life in Independence, Missouri. Morey was a Navy man who volunteered for submarine duty during World War II. He was stationed on the USS Balao and fought valiantly in the Pacific. When the war ended he became a millwright working at CPC International, where he served as a union representative and mediator. He was a talented craftsman, and spent most of his retirement building beautiful furniture and cabinets. He was also a lifelong sports fan and was excited to work for the Kansas City Chiefs for many years. In his spare time he enjoyed bowling, playing the penny slots, dancing, and talking about his adventures during the war. He was a member and deacon at Fairmount Christian Church for 60 years. Morey was an extremely loving man, who was proud of his family. He was beloved by his wife Merrilee Shubert, who preceded him in death, his daughter Linda and her husband Dr. Randall Strelluf of Independence, his son Kevin and his wife Kelly Spencer of Independence, and his grandchildren Dr. Christopher Strelluf of Kansas City, Brittany Strelluf, Brock Spencer, and Alexa Spencer all of Independence. He was happy when he was blessed with a granddaughter-in-law, Shelley Strelluf, and great grandson William Spencer Strelluf. He is also survived by his sisters Vivian Luther and Wanda Muse of Lee’s Summit, his sisters-in law, and many loving nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. Monday, December 15, 2014, at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave. Independence, MO. 64052. The service will follow at 7:00. Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday at Mount Washington Cemetery.
