Charles R. Spendal 87, of Cassville, formerly of Independence, MO, died on Sep 27, 2004 at his home, surrounded by the family he loved so dearly. Services will be 1:30 pm, Fri, Oct 1, 2004 at the George C. Carson & Sons Funeral Home. Burial in Mt. Washington Forever Cemetery. Visitation will be 7 - 8:30 pm Thu at the Funeral Home. Contributions are suggested to the Blessing Heights Church, Cassville, MO 65625. Charlie was born on Apr. 15, 1917 to John & Elizabeth (Robinson) Spendal in Arma, KS and had lived most of his life in Independence. He graduated from West Mineral High School in West Mineral, KS in 1935. After graduation he went to live and work in Kansas City at a hamburger joint for $7 a week. Shortly after he met and married the beautiful Margaret "Irene� Goin. They met at the church and went together for 8 months before marrying in 1939. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy with the Amphibious unit in the Pacific Theater around Iwo Jima for two years. He then returned home and went to work at Badger Lumber Company in Fairmont, MO as a truck driver and yardman. Soon after he was promoted to salesman. After Badger Lumber closed he went to work at Daniels-McCray. He became the number 1 lumber Salesman in the Kansas City area and was known by all as "the Legend of the Business�. Charlie is survived by his wife of 65 years, Irene Spendal of Cassville. Three daughters, Linda Newell and husband Les of Cassville, Ruth Brown and husband Gary of Sedalia, MO and Jeanne Rink and husband, Paul of Lenexa, KS. Seven grandchildren, Sheree Criswell, Charles Newell, Stacey Strain, David Sparks, Robert Kinder, Jennifer Williams and Timothy Rink. Eight great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter. His wife, daughters and grandchildren were his greatest joy and pleasure in his life. His presence in our lives will be sorely missed until we shall all be together again in the presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. "Meet us at the gate Daddy�.
