John J. Spor, 94, of Sugar Creek, MO passed away December 31, 2012. A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. followed by a Mass at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 4, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Independence, MO. Entombment will follow at Mt. Olivet Mausoleum. John was born September 9, 1918 to Joseph and Mary (Brant) Spor. He had worked as a pipefitter for Ford Motor Company until his retirement in 1984. John was a proud veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard/Navy, serving on the USS Dickman APA-13, and was a part of the invasions of Africa, Sicily, Southern France, Normandy and Okinawa. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ethel (Warren) Spor; and six siblings. He is survived by his wife, Dorris (Warden) Coker-Spor; five daughters, Bettie Jean Cipolla, Marie Hennigh, Linda Collectt (Carl), Dianna Ethington (Bobby), Karen Jarrett (Dave); one sister, Margaret Deemer (Adam); and three stepsons, Jim (Nancy), Joe, and Jerry (Susanne) Coker; eleven grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; twelve step grandchildren; and twenty-one step great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Food Pantry or to St. Ann’s Catholic Church.
