Goldie Springer

December 19, 1903 — January 15, 2006

Goldie J. Springer, of Independence, MO. departed from this life on Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006, at the age of 102. Services will be 2 pm, Wed., Jan. 18, 2006 at Carson-Speaks Chapel; interment at Mound Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Tuesday at the funeral home. Born in Rosalie, Nebraska, she met and had the great fortune to marry George W. Springer, Sr., who was her partner in life for over 56 years. George and Goldie moved to Independence, MO. where they spent the majority of their lives and raised their family. During WWII she worked at the Lake City Ammunition Plant and later, along with her sister-in-law, Irene Rogers, owned and operated The East Lexington Caf, a block east of the Independence Square. Goldie lived a full life and witnessed the amazing changes of time from the days of travel via horse and buggy to the latest advances in the internet superhighway. Her interests and hobbies included reading and writing poetry, playing the piano, listening to music and drawing. For many years, she cooked Sunday dinners for family and friends. Goldie dedicated her life to raising her family and watching as the family continued to grow from children, to grandchildren, up to great-great-grandchildren. In Goldies eyes there was nothing so precious of that as a newborn baby with a full life ahead of itself. We her family, and friends are grateful and feel honored to have had Goldie in our lives for so many years. She was an exceptional woman with strong values and principles and touched each of our lives in a special way. Although, she will be missed, she will never be forgotten. The family would like to thank Gloria Cole, a special person who cared for Goldie along with George W. Springer, Jr. for over five years, allowing her to spend that time in her own home enjoying her final years with family close by. Goldie was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Springer, Sr. in 1979; parents Ernest and Alma Ring; daughters Yvonne "Bonnie W. Gribble and Maxine J. Hodges; sister Rosalie Olsen; brothers John Ring and Vernie Ring. She is survived by her devoted and loving son, George W. Springer, Jr., Independence, MO; grandchildren Dana Blatt, Independence, MO; Lynda Patrick, Harlingen, TX; Julie Oxley, Holden, MO; Staci Springer, Christi Springer, Donovan Springer, Bonnie Hodges, Rick Windsor, all of Independence; and Robin Field, Leawood, KS; eighteen great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
