Ruth C. Stanger, 97 of Independence, MO passed away Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at Centerpoint Medical Center. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 11, 2018 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Burial will be in Mt. Washington Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 9:00 a.m., until service time Saturday at the chapel. Donations may be made in her name to the VFW National Home, 3573 S. Waverly Rd., Eaton Rapids, MI 48827. She was born December 11, 1920 in Kansas City, MO to Walter A. and Catherine A. (Leiser) Williams and has been a lifelong area resident. She had worked for Speas Vinegar Company until 1979. She was an active member of the VFW Auxiliary for over 70 years, serving as state president, 2 years as district 5 president, Jackson County president and local president of auxiliary 1000, VFW Auxiliary, past state president of the now defunct Military Order of Lady Bugs Auxiliary member of the 6th Inf. 20th Div., Co. D. She spent her winters in Texas where she worked for 15 years as a H.O.S.T. member in Stewart Place Elementary School. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary #21. She has many nieces, nephews and cousins. She and her husband loved to travel making all 50 states, all of Canada except Prince Edward Island, Mexico, France, Italy, Netherlands and England. She and her husband were both lifelong member of the Atherton UMC. Survivors include; a son, Ed Stanger of Independence, MO; 2 daughters, Carol Hotter and husband Robert of Edwards, MO and Pat Stanger of Holden, MO; 6 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 2 step great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, 5 sisters, a brother and a daughter-in-law Kaye Stanger.
