Stanley Allen Farmer, a beloved member of the Independence community, passed away on March 1, 2024. He was born to Joshua and Irma Farmer on May 4, 1933, in Independence, Missouri, Stanley led a life filled with admirable achievements and cherished memories.
After graduating from Northeast High School in 1951, Stanley enlisted into the United States Army and served during the Korean War. His commitment to duty and service resonated throughout his life as he spent 30 years working diligently for the City of Independence. Additionally, his passion for bowling led him to own the Sterling Bowling Alley since 1979, where he not only mastered the art of ball fitting as he managed the pro shop but also shared countless laughs and stories with patrons over the years. Stan and Barbara took pride in running their coffee shop as well.
Known for his quick wit, charm, and friendly nature, Stanley touched the lives of many with his jovial personality. He was respected within the community for his kindness and warm spirit. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Stanley found joy in various hobbies such as bowling, fishing, hunting, golfing, and traveling. He particularly cherished moments spent at the family lakehouse at the Lake of the Ozarks - creating memories that will be forever treasured by his loved ones.
Stanley will be deeply missed by his surviving family members including his children; Steve Farmer (Belle), Chris Farmer (Jena); Mike Tarpenning (Irene) and Joe Tarpenning (Susan); 9 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; other relatives, and friends. In these somber times of mourning, let us remember Stanley for the laughter he brought into our lives and the love he shared with all those around him.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife of 39yrs, Barbara.Services to honor Stanley's life will be held at Carson-Speaks Chapel in Independence on March 10th for visitation from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on March 11th for a funeral service starting at 10:00 AM followed by burial at Mount Washington Cemetery at 11:30 AM.
As we bid farewell to a remarkable soul who brightened our days with laughter and kindness, may we find solace in knowing that Stanley's memory will forever live on in our hearts.
