Stephen Dale Maginness of Independence, MO, passed away on January 29th, 2024. He was 75 years old.
Steve was born on October 8, 1948 to parents Allen Dale and Betty Lou (Alden) Maginness in Kansas City, MO.
Stephen attended William Chrisman and Truman High Schools in Independence, MO, graduating from Truman in 1966. He served in the US Navy from 1968-1971 and later also served in the Navy Reserves. After his Active Duty service he earned a Bachelors degree in Sociology from the University of Missouri, Kansas City.
Stephen worked in the lumber industry with the E.A. Nielsen Company from 1975 until he retired at the end of 2013.
He and Donna Dickensheets were married in 1971 in Independence, Missouri, where they raised a family. Stephen is survived by his wife Donna; brother Michael and his wife Chris; sons Alex, and John, and their wives Margaret and Janet. His three Granddaughters include Aubrielle, Savannah, and Annabelle. Countless members of extended family and friends will mourn his passing. He was preceded in death by his parents Dale and Betty.
Steve was an active member of the Rod-TiQues Kansas City Car Club. He was also affiliated with the VFW, and American Legion.
Steve was an avid bicyclist and also a life-long railroad and model railroad enthusiast. Classic cars and activities involving them were a large part of his and his family's life. He enjoyed soccer and was active in coaching for youth sports teams when his sons were young. He and Donna also enjoyed exploring with and camping in their travel trailer.
A visitation is planned for Wednesday February 7th, 2024 at 1:00 PM with a memorial service to follow at 2:30 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E 39th St. Independence, MO.
