Betty L. Stephens, 88, formerly of Independence, MO passed away Jan. 3, 2015 at Cornerstone Hospital in Conroe, TX. Services will be 2 pm, Sat., Jan. 10 at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052; interment at Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1 pm before the service at the chapel. Betty was born Jan. 14, 1926 in Independence and was the only child of Cecil and Beulah Walker. She lived in Independence for eighty-five years. She graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1943 and attended Graceland College in Lamoni, IA. She was a steno-clerk with the Dupont Corporation at Lake City Ammunition plant from 1951 until she retired in 1971. She was an avid antique doll collector and charter member of the Santa Fe Doll Club from 1984 through 2014. In the late 1970’s she was a guide at the Truman Library and, through her love of all things Truman and history, brought the library to life for many visitors. Betty is survived by her daughter, Marsha L. Campbell, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The family wishes to thank her loving care giver and friend Mary Dewalt. Her dedication to Betty and her support of the family is deeply appreciated.
