Lois Stephens, 82, passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 27, 2007 after a fall at her home that resulted in a head trauma. A visitation will be held from 2-3:00 PM on Friday, Nov. 30 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, with services beginning at 3:00 PM. Cremation to follow services. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.
Lois was born the oldest of five children to Walter and Violet Vortanz in Hayward, WI. Early in her career she worked for PIE Trucking and TWA. She married Paul Stephens in 1947 and together they raised three boys and one girl. During that time, Lois was a stay-at-home mom, being active as a Cub Scout and Girl Scout Leader. She went back to work in the late 1960’s for Micro Tech and then later for Dr. Hink in Fairmont. Before her retirement she worked for GEHA. Lois was active in the King of Glory Lutheran Church, serving as President of the Congregation.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Paul in 1989, and daughter, Janet in 2005. She is survived by three sons and their wives: Gene and Dixie Stephens of Blue Springs, Mark and Shelley Stephens of Lawson, MO, and John and Deb Stephens of Independence; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and her sister, Elsie Pittman.
