Richard "Dick / Rich" Sterrett, 96, of Independence, Mo., passed away Sunday afternoon,
January 30, 2022, at the Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence. Richard was born on
March 12, 1925, in Independence, Missouri to Anthony Blaine and Alice (née Deyo) Sterrett.
He graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1944. Richard worked for "Armco Steel" and "Union Wire and Rope" before retiring. In 1943, he met Jeanne Voltmann and they would later marry on January 1, 1947. Richard was baptized into the RLDS church and later attended the Restoration church. Richard and Jeanne were blessed with eight children. Richard was involved in the scouts with his three sons. He loved woodworking and helping others. Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne, of 69 years in 2016. He was also preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Charles Sterrett, Norma Kuhnlein, Eugene Sterrett, and Edward Sterrett. He is survived by daughters: Marda Kline (Gregg), Paula Johnson (Joseph), Cathy Dieke (Steve), Mary Waddell (Don), Patricia Morrow (Brent), sons: Thomas Sterrett (Marcia), Kevin Sterrett (Julie), Steven Sterrett (Darla), numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 9th from 9-10am with funeral service to begin at 10am. Burial will immediately follow at Mound Grove Cemetery. The service will be livestreamed as well and can be found at www.speakschapel.com. Donations and contributions can be made, in Richard's name, to Children's Mercy Hospital.
