Wilma Jean Steuer, 85, Independence, MO passed away December 21, 2014. Services will be 2 PM Tuesday, December 30 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St. Independence MO 64055; interment at Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be before the services between noon and 2pm Tuesday at the chapel.
Jean lived a fulfilled life from forming a girls high school basketball team, hiding in a trunk on the vaudeville stage while her parents were performing, modeling, flying on a trapeze, hosting her own daily hour radio show, “Around the Town with Jean” in Wisconsin and Kansas City, participating in the Normandy community drama group, holding various offices in the Mother’s Club & as a Cub Scout Leader at her children’s school to a strong advocate for the disabled in both her personal and professional life. Jean assisted in the organization of the Spina Bifida Association Greater St. Louis as well as the National Association. She held various offices for Spina Bifida Chapter in St Louis and served as editor for both. Jean traveled to Jefferson City to fight the MO legislature to reword House Bill 474 to give every child a right for free public education regardless of their handicap, not just the mentally retarded. She was the Director at United Cerebral Palsy Day Care Center and then later as a Teaching Assistant for the United Cerebral Association of Greater Kansas City.
Jean had been living in Marietta, GA with her son and daughter-in-law but lived most of her life in Missouri. Jean was preceded in death by her beloved daughter Michele Steuer just eight months earlier and her husband Kenneth Steuer on June 21, 2010. She is survived by her sister Sheila Logan; sons, Michael Steuer, San Francisco, CA and Greg Steuer; daughter-in-law, Theresa Steuer and only grandson, Rob Steuer, Marietta GA and many loving family members, neighbors and friends.
