Robert Joseph Stevens, 66 of Adrian, MO passed away Saturday, August 12, 2017 at the Kansas City VA Hospital. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at the Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052. Burial with full military honors will follow in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday evening at the chapel. Robert was born December 21, 1950 in MT. Ash, KY to Daphine (Anderson) Stevens. Upon completing high school he proudly served in the US Army during Vietnam. He was a steel worker and had worked for 29 years at Armco Steel and later was a truck driver until he retired. He served as a volunteer firefighter/EMT with the Fort Osage Fire Protection District. He was a Ham radio operator and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a member of the Good Hope Baptist Church in Clinton, MO, Post #14 American Legion and volunteered at the Clinton Senior Center. He is survived by; a daughter, Liela Van Vliet and husband Carl of Adrian, MO; siblings, Betty Gray and husband Dennis, Kathy Stevens all of Independence, MO and, Kenny Stevens and wife Renee of Buckner, MO; 4 grandchildren, Robbie, Steven, Josiah and Rebekah and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Valerie Ann (Brown) in 2008, his mother and a sister, Karen Stevens.
