Hugh Stewart, 70, of Independence, MO passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2003 at the St. Joseph Health Center in Kansas City, MO. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 26 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. The visitation will be directly following the Service in the chapel and will last until 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. Hugh immigrated to Independence in 1955 from Glasgow, Scotland. He was employed as a carpenter for Hastings Construction Company until 1968 when he founded Hugh Stewart Construction Co., which was in business until his retirement in 1998. Hugh was an avid runner and completed the Kansas City (Macy�s) Marathon twice, as well as numerous other Hospital Hill Half Marathons. He had been a member of the Blue Springs Runners. In addition, Hugh enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Lakewood Oaks Golf Club. Mr. Stewart was known to all as a dedicated family man as well as friend. He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly forty years, Bobbie Wikke Stewart, as well as his parents, George and Helen Stewart, his infant daughter, Elizabeth Anne Stewart and his mother-in-law, Jewell Wikke. He is survived by his daughters, Heather Stewart, Holly Stewart-Joy and Hayley Stewart Carter; his companion, Judy Harris; eight grandchildren, Hillary Joy, Hugh Stewart, Gillian Joy, Andrew Stewart, Margaret Joy, Jackson Carter, Ethan Carter and Piper Carter. Other survivors include his siblings, George and Ronald Stewart, Margaret Handley, his father-in-law, Ralph Wikke and many nieces and nephews. Prior to his death, Hugh had personally registered himself as an organ donor and these wishes were fulfilled. He and his family members would encourage others to follow his example
