Stevens L. “Steve” Stewart, 57, Independence, MO died unexpectedly Sept. 19, 2011. Services will be 2 pm, Friday Sept. 23, at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave, Independence, MO 64052; interment with Full Military Honors will follow at Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Thursday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to Beacon House Recovery Home for Addicts and Alcoholics, 202 S. Ellison Way, Independence MO 64050.
Steve was born Aug. 5, 1954 in Chillicothe, MO. He attended Van Horn High School before joining the Army where he served in the 82nd Airborne division. He was the owner of the Perfect Concrete Company since it’s founding in 1996. He also was a founder and director of the Beacon House Recovery Home, a recovery center for addicts and alcoholics. He was a Pop Warner Football coach and loved to hunt and fish.
Steve was preceded in death by his father Ron Stewart. He is survived by his wife Karen Stewart, of the home, mother Judy Koch and husband Vic, son Stevens L. Stewart, Jr.; daughter Melony Stewart, both of Kansas City, MO; sons Patrick Kelly Stewart and wife Jessica; Scott Stewart; Luke Stewart and wife Tasha, all of Independence, MO; daughter Taylor Stewart, of the home; sister Sherrill Bass, Independence, MO; brothers Donnie Stewart; Butch Veuleman; both of Independence, MO; and five grandchildren.
