Kenneth Eugene Stobaugh, 96, of Blue Springs, died Monday, June 29 at Centerpoint Medical Center, Independence, Mo.
Mr. Stobaugh was born June 3, 1924, in Independence, Mo., to James William and Bernice McChristy Stobaugh.
He received his A.A. degree from Graceland University in 1944 and completed his B.A degree from Graceland University in 1977.
After World War II, Ken graduated from Radio Announcing school. He worked as a radio announcer in various cities for 10 years.
In 1956, Ken accepted a job with the Community of Christ as a full time minister that spanned over 33 years. He served in Southwest Missouri and Northern Indiana. He was then assigned to Nauvoo, IL where for 25 years he directed the Community of Christ Historic sites program. While living in Nauvoo, he served in several community leadership rolls. At various times he served as president of the Nauvoo Chamber of Commerce, of the Nauvoo Historical Society, and the Nauvoo Library board. He also served in similar capacities for tourism related organizations including president of the lliamo Travel Council and president of the Illinois Western Regional Tourism Council. While serving with that council, he also served as the president of the Presidents Council for the state of Illinois. After Retirement, he served on the City of Independence Tourism Advisory Board as president of the board.
Illinois Governor Richard Ogilvie appointed him to the Joliet-Marquette Tri-Centennial Commission. Governor James Thompson appointed him to the Illinois Mississippi River Parkway Commission. This appointment afforded him the opportunity of being on the board of the Great River Road Association representing Illinois.
On April 13, 1946, Ken married Mary Lou Denman. They had four children, Mary Lou Passed away in 1975. In 1976, he was called to be a President of Seventy and served on that council until 1986.
On October 7, 1978, Ken married Betty Lane. She has two children.
Ken was preceded in death by daughter Julie Stobaugh, James and Bernice McChristy Stobaugh, Sister Viola Smith, Brother-in-law Ralph Smith, and Brother-in-law John Trinkl.
Ken is survived by his wife of 42 years, Betty Lane Stobaugh, his children, Laura (Marvin) Crozier, Pamela (Paul) King, James (Tammy), Stepdaughter, Lana (Brad) McCarty, Step-son Larry (Jacque) Lane. Sister, Marge Trinkl; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
The Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, July 12, 2020 at 2:00 pm. It will be broadcast on facebook.com/WalnutGardens.
