Larry was born on February 25, 1942, in Kansas City, MO, to Ralph and Lois (Smith) Stogsdill. He graduated from Lone Jack High School in the class of 1959. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1960, and proudly served his country for four years. After honorable discharge, he married Mae Burchell, and to this union were born two children. He was a painter, spot welder, and forklift driver for Allis Chalmers for over 35 years. Larry always kept busy – his philosophy was “there is always something to do.” He enjoyed shop work, cutting wood, camping, and fishing. He was also a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Larry never knew a stranger. He was known for striking up a conversation with anyone and everyone. He would often go to the Blue Ridge Mall and talk with people passing by. He will be most remembered for being a dependable provider for his family, and being the greatest grandpa in the world.
Larry is survived by his two children, Darrel Stogsdill and Cheryl Simpson (husband, Travis) and their mother, Mae; grandchildren, Ashlee, Joshua, Logan, Amber, Autum, Terry, Kevin, Tamara; great-grandchildren, Dana McKayla, Christian, Lexi, Whitney, Lucas, and Dyson; brothers, Gary and Jerry; and his special “lady friend” and caretaker, Brenda Spencer.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Terry.
