David Stone, 87, of Kansas City, MO passed away March 8, 2018. Visitation will be 1-2 pm Monday, 12, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Lee’s Summit. Funeral services will follow at 2 pm at the church. Burial with full Military Honors will take place in Mt. Washington Cemetery. Kyle David Stone David was born and lived in obscure surroundings until he and two of his siblings were sent to the Children’s Home of St. Louis Missouri. There, at age 8 he was adopted by E A and Marie Stone, to become their only son He was most appreciative of them all of his life. He grew up in Independence where the family joined the First Baptist Church of Independence, Missouri. He was active there as a youth, and later as a teacher & Department leader, going on to becoming a Deacon, Chr. of the Board, and Assistant Moderator. While there he was appointed to serve on the Board of Trustees at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (1975- 1985). He served on many committees and also as Chairman of the Board. He was also involved in Gideon’s International and was a member of the Rotary Club. David worked for the family business, Stone Manufacturing & Supply Co. before attending Missouri Valley College in Marshall. While attending College, David met his wife, Suzanne Fisher. They married just after he went into the army. During his second year of duty (1954), his father died. After completing his tour of duty, David returned home to help his mother run the business. He initially focused his work on sales, traveling extensively and getting new customers, eventually marketing in 48 states and also some overseas. David soon became President of the Company. Later, he was especially pleased to be named boss of the year by the local Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association in 1977. Besides being a successful businessman, committed church leader, and devoted family man, David was also active in the Juvenile Diabetes Association of KC. He was honored to be asked to go to Washington D.C. to represent the parent of a juvenile diabetic concerning a ban on saccharin. There, before glaring lights, he made his brief television debut. In 1988 he sold the business, and David and Suzanne later moved to Country Meadows of Independence in 1992. He didn’t waste any time putting his energy and talent to work there, where he served 2 consecutive terms as President of the Association. David and Suzanne have been members of First Baptist Church of Lee’s Summit since 2003 where he served as a deacon and on various committees. When his health declined he and Suzanne moved to Kingswood Senior Living in Kansas City. David was not one who could sit and watch something happening. He had to be up and participating. He was a great Father, a great Husband, and a great Man. David leaves behind his loving wife Suzanne and their three children: Julie Marie (married to Mike Evans); Edwal Stone (married to Kathy), and Jennifer Sue (Thompson).
