Michael Stone

June 3, 1962 — January 10, 2014

Mike Stone, 51, formally of Buckner, MO passed away January 10, 2014 in Carthage, MO. A Memorial Reception will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 25, 2014 at the Speaks-Buckner Chapel 300 Adams, Buckner, MO. Mike was born to Floyd and Elizabeth (Alleman) Stone on June 3, 1962 in Kansas City, MO. He spent his childhood and early adulthood in Buckner and Raytown, then moved to Carthage, Missouri after having children, in hopes of giving them a small-town childhood. He lived in Carthage the remainder of his life. Mike was a devoted father, tradesman, reader, and Chiefs fan. He was a member of the Electricians Union, IBEW Local 124, for nearly 25 years. He instilled in his loved ones a strong work ethic and he always had a good book to recommend (as well as the tendency to recommend it ceaselessly until you read it). He was critical of the people he cared about because he was good at seeing the best in people and insistent upon watching them reach their full potential. He will be remembered as eccentric in his personality and imagination, a man who brought his own wild spirit into his loved ones’ lives.Mike is survived by his mother, Betty Stone, of Independence; daughters, Samantha Rush of Joplin, and Sara Stone of Shore Line, WA; son, Tyler Stone, of Shore Line, WA; sister, Karen Lopez (John) of Bates City; brother, David Stone (Angie) of North Kansas City; 4 granddaughters; 3 nieces; and 4 nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Floyd Stone. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the City Union Mission in Mike’s name. Online condolences may be expressed at www.speakschapel.com (Arrangements: Speaks-Buckner Chapel (816) 650-5555)
