Joyce Eva (Holden) Stowell, 80, Independence, Mo. passed away Jan. 25, 2005 at the Rosewood Center. She was born May 14, 1924 in Arkansaw, Wisconsin, the third of four children to William & Nettie Holden. Her youth was spent on the "Farm on the Hill� in Arkansaw. In 1942, she graduated from Arkansaw High School. After graduation she attended Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa and then completed her diploma from the Independence Sanitarium and Hospital in 1946.
During her career she worked for many years in doctors� offices and completed her nursing career as a nurse in the Independence, Mo. School District. In 1946 she met Vince Stowell and they were married in Independence on Nov. 8, 1946. They had three children: Doug, Gwen, and Mark. She was preceded in death by her parents, William & Nettie Holden, and a brother, Warren Holden. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Vince, of the home; son, Doug Stowell and his wife Ione, Tulsa, Ok.; daughter Gwen Simpson and husband Jim, Lamoni, Ia.; son Mark Stowell, Independence, Mo.; a sister Delores Moline, Pepin, Ws.; brother Ken Holden and wife Kitty, Bend, Or.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends and relatives.
Joyce was a lifelong member of the Community of Christ Church where she held the priesthood office of Elder. Her life was devoted to serving others in her family, church, employment and service organizations.
Services will be 10 am, Sat., Jan. 29, 2005 at Speaks Suburban Chapel: interment at Mound Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 - 8 pm, Friday at the funeral home.
