Gladys Straub, 101, of Lee’s Summit, passed away Tuesday, October 30th, 2012. A private memorial service will be held by the family at a later time.
Gladys was born March 8th, 1911 in Brooklyn New York to Frederick and Lily Anna (Stucky) Bahlert. As a child she was school in New York. Her best known childhood memory was singing for war bonds during World War I. Gladys was a strong figure of determination for the family. She raised two girls in Connecticut. She retired from work at 2nd National Bank of Connecticut in 1973. She lived with her daughter, who deeply cared for Gladys, since 2004 in Lee’s Summit, MO. Gladys enjoyed living life to the fullest and being with people. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all. Gladys will be remembered always for her thoughtful and caring nature, but above all for her optimism. Gladys was a woman who always saw the glass half full.
She is survived by her daughter, Edys Stine and husband John of Lee’s Summit, MO; daughter, Claire Petretto of Hamden, CT; grandchildren, John Mele and JT Smith of Sacramento, CA; Kristopher Stine of New Haven, IN; Justin Stine and wife Melinda of Lee’s Summit, MO; Dawn Gatewood of Pottersville, MO; Edys Reilly and husband Chris of Indianapolis, IN; Eileen Hamel of New Haven, CT; Holly Ball and husband Jeff of Indianapolis, IN; great-grandchildren, Christopher Simerman; Logan, Austin, and Connor Reilly; Chandler, Spencer, and Jaedon Ball of Indianpolis, IN; Kristin Stine of New Haven, IN; Destiney and Justine Stine of Lee’s Summit, MO; and Gladys’ beloved “granddoggers,” Aubrey, Dolly, and Jasmine of the Stine’s in Lee’s Summit, MO. Gladys was preceded in death by her last beloved husband, Dr. Clarence Straub, as well as granddaughter, Sheryl Stine and great granddaughter, Megan Stine. In lieu of flowers the family encourages donations in her name made to Three Rivers Hospice, PO Box 1937 Platte City, MO 64079; Animals Best Friends PO Box 493 Independence, MO 64051; or Fort Osage Church of the Nazarene, 19333 East US Highway Independence, MO 64056.
