Hubert Wayne Strickland, 79, of Independence, MO passed away Thursday, October 9th 2014. A visitation will be held Monday, October 13th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Speaks Suburban Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 14th at the Chapel. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Independence, MO.
Wayne was born October 1, 1935 in Buffalo, MO as one of six children of Hubert and Sarah (Dull) Strickland. He graduated from high school and earned his Electricians Certification during his employment with Honeywell (then Bendix) of 42 years before retirement in 1997. He married Patsy (Owens) on September 24th, 1955. He and his wife had been “Winter Texans” since 1997, participating in the Winter Ranch Park community. His family enjoyed traveling, camping, and the outdoors. Wayne is a Charter Member of his hometown congregation, Bible Baptist of Buffalo, MO, and also a member of Eastside Baptist Church. Wayne was a volunteer for the Police Department, Neighborhood Watch Chairman, and a member of the Free Mason’s #76 for fifty years. His family remembers him as a well disciplined and strict man who would do anything for his family. He is loved and will be missed. Wayne is survived by his wife of 59 years, Patsy Strickland; daughter, Vicky McTavish of Independence, MO; son, Dennis Strickland; sisters, Bethel Miller of Lee’s Summit, MO and Verna Strickland of Buffalo, MO; brother, Lawrence Strickland (Debbie) of Buffalo; and numerous grand and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by sisters, Louise Louderbaugh and Annabelle Kindle. The family encourages contributions to American Cancer and Eastside Baptist Church in his memory.
