Phillip Perry “Phil” Stringfield, 71 of Independence, Missouri passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 27, 2023. Phil was born to Joseph and Fernanda Stringfield on December 6, 1951 in Trieste, Italy.
After graduating from Andress High School in El Paso, Texas in 1970 Phil enlisted in the United States Air Force. He proudly served his country for 4yrs and then spent 14yrs in the reserves. Phil wanted to continue his education after his tour was over so he went back to school, attending college at UMKC. He successfully graduated in 1978 with a bachelor’s degree in speech and theatre arts. Phil was a substitute teacher for many years before going to work for the Marine Corp Finance Center in Kansas City. He was retired on disability from the Finance Center after a 20 year career. Phil was a founding member of the City Theatre, an avid supporter of the Native Americans rights and a member of their council as well. He was a Past Master of the McDonald’s Masonic Lodge, a member of the D.A.V. and volunteered many hours as an active member and Deacon of the First Presbyterian Church of Independence. When Phil wasn’t donating his time to organizations he strongly supported he would often be found watching soccer or cheering on his favorite local team, the Wizards later known as Sporting KC, from the stands. He was always very mellow and a go with the flow type of guy. Phil will be missed tremendously by his friends and family but they find peace in knowing that Phil is no longer in pain.
Phil is survived by his sister, Victoria Larkin (Bob), brother, Douglas Stringfield (Jeanne); 5 nephews, 2 nieces, 9 great-nephews and 4 great-nieces.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Elizabeth Bumgardner.

Phil’s memorial service will begin at 11am on Saturday, June 17th at First Presbyterian Church of Independence with inurnment to follow at New Salem Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the St. Labre Indian School, 112 St. Labre Campus Drive, 115 W 1st St, Ashland, MT 59003. This is an organization that Phil supported often.
