Lily Jean "Jeanne" Stroup (Waller)

Lily Jean “Jeanne” Stroup, 95 of Independence, MO passed away Friday, February 12, 2021 at Villages of Jackson Creek. The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055 followed by a funeral service. All services will be held under Covid-19 restrictions with a maximum of 50 people with masks and social distancing required. Burial will follow in Platte City Cemetery. The family suggests donations be made in her name to the Fairmount Food Pantry, 800 S. Hardy Ave., Independence, MO 64053. Jeanne was born November 13, 1925 in Platte City, MO to George Hirum and Lillian (Duncan) Waller and spent most of her early life in the Platte City area, graduating from Platte City High School in 1941. She had worked bookkeeper for North American Aircraft later TWA. During WWII she supported the war effort working at North American Aircraft making planes that were used during the war. She married Bob Stroup in 1947 and they were inseparable for 69 years. She later worked for Home Savings and later retired from Noland Road Mercantile Bank. She was very active as a homemaker, PTA member and as a den mother for her sons Boy Scouts troop. She enjoyed cooking, spending time with friends and family, attending her grandchildren’s sporting events and was an avid KC Royals fan. She was a longtime member of the Mt. Washington United Methodist Church where she was active in the United Methodist Women, volunteering at the Fairmont Food Panty and served as treasurer/bookkeeper for the church office. She is survived by; 2 sons, Rob Stroup and wife Vicki of Lee’s Summit, MO and Kevin Stroup of Independence, MO and 4 grandchildren, Travis, Tyler, Dusty and Devin. She was preceded in death by her husband M. “Bob” Stroup in 2016, her parents, 2 brothers Edward and Duncan, and 4 sisters Louise Leopard, Bernice Perry, Elsie Lucas and June Wallis.
