Bob Stroup, age 94, of Independence MO, passed away on June 29, 2016 at St Lukes Hospice House. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. with services at 11:00am, Thursday July 7, 2016 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St, Independence, MO 64055. Burial with full military honors will be in the Platte City MO Cemetery following the service.
Bob was born in Tyrone, OK. He later moved and grew up in Platte City MO. After high school he enlisted in the Army, and proudly served his country in WWII from 1942-46 as a member of the 593rd Amphibian Engineers, delivering combat landings and beachhead operations in New Guinea, the Philippines and later in Yokohama, Japan as the war ended.
After his service, Bob returned home, attended Watchmaking School in KCMO, and married his high school sweetheart Jeanne (Waller) Stroup. Bob worked for several years at Standard Oil, and transitioned his watchmaking skills into a 26 year career at TWA, working as an Instruments Mechanic at their commercial aircraft base in KCMO.
Bob was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt, fish, play golf and table tennis in his retirement years. He loved baseball as a player and later coached his sons’ youth teams. He was a charter member and leader of a Table Tennis club at the Truman Memorial Building in Independence in the 1990’s. It grew to include many members and continues today.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Jeanne, son and daughter in law Rob & Vicki and their 3 sons Travis, Tyler and Dusty of Lees Summit, and son Kevin and his daughter Devin of Bozeman, Montana.
