Irene Swaggerty

December 24, 1930 — August 22, 2017

Irene Josephine Swaggerty, 86, passed away on August 22, 2017, at Northcare Hospice House.

Private services will be held at a later date.

Irene was born on Christmas Eve, 1930, in Peoria, Kansas, as one of eight children to Robert and Labertha Hager. She married Marine veteran Denzel C. Swaggerty, and to this union were born three sons. She was a homemaker for the majority of her years, but also worked briefly for McDonalds and a local cafeteria. She enjoyed reading Danielle Steele and James Patterson novels, listening to country music- especially Conway Twitty and George Jones- and cheering John Elway on to victory during the Denver Broncos games. She loved cooking for her family. Her sons and husband loved to fish – they would often bring home their catch, and she would proudly help them clean the fish, even though she couldn’t stand the taste or smell of it! She was an excellent wife, mom, and grandma, and will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her sons: William “Bill” Swaggerty and his wife Cathy, Kenneth Swaggerty and his wife Sherri, and Dan Swaggerty; and three grandsons: Derek Swaggerty, William Swaggerty, and Dustin Swaggerty.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Denzel; her parents; and siblings: Marcella, Buddy, Dorothy, Frances, Margaret, Mary Ruth, and an infant sibling.
