Robert Sweetland, 73, Independence MO, died Monday, December 13, 2004, at his home. Services will be 2:00 pm Thursday at Abiding Savior Lutheran Church; burial in Blue Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 pm Wednesday at Speaks Suburban Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Cancer Research. Mr. Sweetland was born February 9, 1931, to Carl and Lottie Sweetland, in Hamlin, KS. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and had served in the Korean War. He worked as a diesel mechanic his entire life and loved to tinker and fix things. He was a member of the American Legion Post 21 and was involved as a Scout Master, belonging to the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. Robert was a faithful member of Abiding Savior Lutheran Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patty, in 1999, and son Stephen in 1989. He is survived by three children, Monty Sweetland, Blue Springs MO, Peggy Jackson, Lee�s Summit MO, and Stuart Sweetland, Blue Springs; 3 grandchildren; and brother, Carlton Sweetland, Huntsville, AL.
